How to Apply Lily & Fox Nail Wraps

Salon-style nails at home have never been quicker or simpler than with Lily & Fox wraps. Each one sticks on by itself, so no heat or lamp is needed. Begin with freshly cleaned hands, pick the size that suits each nail, press the wrap on, and firm it into place with a cuticle pusher or just a fingertip. Then file off whatever overhangs and you are finished!

Want your manicure to hold for 3-4 weeks rather than 1-2? Brush on a top coat, although that step is totally optional. Thanks to our patented ultra-shiny finish, the wraps look stunning even with no top coat at all!

**These wraps work over every kind of nail: natural and unpainted, regular polish, acrylics, SNS, Shellac, or gel.

1. Start with clean, dry hands

  • Lotion, sun cream, soap, and plenty of other residues can linger on nails and keep the wraps from bonding properly.

  • (The natural oil produced by your skin and nails counts here too!)

  • Rinse them briefly with a wash, or wipe each nail with an alcohol pad until spotless!

2. Pick the best-fitting size

  • Hunting for a perfect fit can drag on and on!

  • That is the reason every order arrives with AT LEAST 14 wraps, giving you a size that fits (pun intended, sorry) on every single nail.

3. Take Off The Transparent Plastic Film From Each Wrap

  • It is easy to miss, but a thin protective plastic layer sits over the entire sheet of wraps!

  • Lift it away first. That lets you peel the wrap beneath it (coming up in the next step!), set it on your nail, and press it flat along the natural curve of the nail.

4. Lift the wrap off by its upper edge

  • Start peeling the wrap you picked from the top edge, which is the part that gets filed off later as extra.

  • Keep the sticky underside away from every surface until it lands on your nail, so the glue stays tacky!

  • Even so, the clever material in our wraps lets you press one down, lift it, and lay it again with the stickiness intact - handy if you wish to shift the position on your nail (yes, I am rather fussy about it).

5. Line up the wrap with your cuticle, then press outward from there

  • Set the wrap's lower edge close to the cuticle without touching it.

  • Rub in small circles to flatten it and smooth it on: begin by the cuticle, work down one side, sweep over the tip area, and come back up along the opposite side.

  • A snug seal at the tip with zero wrinkles is what gives you a flawless manicure that stays for as long as you like.

**Spot a small crease? Gently tug and stretch the wrap to work it out - see our tips further down!)

6. Trim away the overhang

  • Take the nail file from the kit and remove the overhanging length (at times it helps to snip it with scissors beforehand, then let the file create the final edge).

  • Always move the file in one direction only, downward.

  • Sawing sideways or upward breaks the seal against your nail and lets dirt and particles creep beneath the wrap (that weakens the glue, so the tips lift sooner and the wraps wear out faster).

  • After filing along the nail's free edge, the leftover piece will peel off with a soft pull (should it resist, simply file downward a bit more!).

  • That is all there is to it!

**Any rough edges still on the nail can be buffed with the pink face of the file (the finer grit). Remember, downward strokes only! 😉

Optional: Top Coat

  • Right from the package, Lily & Fox wraps already have a high shine.

  • For extra sparkle, or for wear beyond 1-2 weeks, add a layer of top coat.

  • Pro tip: when using a top coat, swipe it over the free edge of each nail too, which helps the wraps bond to the nail even more securely!

PS: Our favorites are the Hard as Nails Top Coat from Sally Hansen
and the Top Coat in Essie's Platinum Grade Finish line 😊

TIPS: Ways to Keep our nail wraps lasting longer

Drawing on our own trials with the wraps and chats with customers, we have collected several pointers to keep your Lily & Fox wraps in place for the longest time!

Tip #1 - Try Essie Platinum Grade Finish, or Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, as your top coat (see above!)

  • Any top coat you already love is fine too, but skip fast-drying formulas, since they dehydrate your natural nails more quickly - and nobody wants that!

  • A top coat is a great boost as well, stretching the wear time from 1-2 weeks up to 3-4 weeks 💅

Tip #2 - Brush on a base coat prior to the wraps, which shields the nails and helps the wraps cling

  • It can be useful for naturally greasy nail beds too.

  • Heads up: never swap in a top coat for a base coat, as it is heavier and needs more time to set.

  • For the base layer we reach for Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, or else the Rubberized Base Coat from Orly (Bonder).

Tip #3 - Ideally hold off for six hours minimum before soaking your hands in hot water, so the wraps can bond well over time

  • Heat can weaken the glue on the wraps if they meet it too soon, and then they might lift sooner!

  • So watch the water temperature, and your wraps will stay flawless from the very first day!

Tip #4 - A Little Bonus Care

  • Some folks who baby their wraps put on gloves for dishwashing, and pick lukewarm rather than scalding water in the shower

  • A few sun creams share ingredients with certain polish removers. Think about covering your nails with a top coat before the sunscreen goes on, or slip on gloves.

  • That small extra bit of care keeps your wraps looking flawless and wearing for ages!
